It occured to me, the other day<br>
as I was walking out the door,<br>
How the little things just look like they stop and stare,<br>
while often they do more.

Like, How does the moth so gracefully fly<br>
on delicate, papered wings?<br>
Or, How does the humming bird learn to fly<br>
and the canary sweetly sing?

To ask of Mother Nature<br>
On gentle, bending knee,<br>
"How do your children learn these things?<br>
Is this something I'm supposed to see?"

Within Her gentle, gazing eyes<br>
Did shining shimmer show,<br>
"I'll tell you now, my Sweet, new Child,<br>
Do look and gaze and know.

"Do look upon the new, sweet Pup<br>
that wanders far and near.<br>
Caress the soft, sweet Kitten's fur<br>
T'is rumbling purr you'll hear.

"Gaze upon the multicolored<br>
Owlets young and old<br>
You'll see it, too, must learn its ways<br>
Of when to flee and when to be bold.

"Coyote sings its haunting howl<br>
Across the darkening way,<br>
Silent deer does trod its Path<br>
showing you the way.

"Listen to the children both young and old,<br>
They'll tell you what to do.<br>
LIsten to the North, East, West and South,<br>
They'll show you things anew."

I listened to Her all the while<br>
as my eyes they silently fell.<br>
To Her silken, gentle words of Truth<br>
Yes, even now, it's that I can tell.

"Sleep well and peacefully, sweet gentle Soul,<br>
Be safe in your Mother's arms."<br>
Now I know and now can tell<br>
Of Her sweet and gentle charms.
