Chapter seven.
+

+
“What orders did you give Othelh?” Cyrisullie inquired again. Othelh turned her head to face the older dragon but said nothing.
+

+
A wavering voice from the entrance of the cave answered for her.
+

+
“She said to keep cutting the rations in half, that she meant to starve Beatri because she defied her, and if I didn’t do as she said, the rations to my cave would be next. “
+

+
Cormie knew that voice as the dragoness who had helped get her back to the cave. Her little claws dug into the wing base of Cyrisullie and she hung low on his back as Othelh glared at first the dragoness who entered the cave, then Cyruisullie.
+

+
“And why shouldn’t I have? “ Othelh spat out. “ What has been done was to preserve order in the Wyer, something YOU, you old fossil have forgotten, where each dragon knows his or her place.
+

+
Why, if I hadn’t been keeping the old ways here we would be over run with monstrous creatures like that hairy thing she calls her daughter. I know what you have been doing Cyrisullie, and I won’t stand for it any longer. I’d rather see the Wyer in ruin than taken over by those things-!”
+

+
Instead of being angry, as Cormie suspected he would be, Cryisullie just sighed.
+

+
“I know. I’ve known for years what you have been doing as well Othelh, and it pained me greatly to see it happening but until you showed your hand I didn’t have the proof that I needed to make things right.
+

+
The Order has never asked of any dragon to be banished unless it was felt that dragon would be of harm to the wyer. You, Othelh, have caused great harm to the dragons who live here, and to the innocent,
+

+
yet, I am reluctant to banish you because I know in your heart you felt you were doing the right thing. I can, however, give Beatri your position and your rations to make up the harm that has been done to her, and her family. “
+

+
”My rations? What will I eat?” Othelh gasped.
+

+
“You could try eating what we have had to eat for the last few weeks…” Agryua shot back at her.
+

+
“Your suggesting that I eat … rats?” she stammered whirling her head towards the young hatchling. Her eyes narrowed as she stepped forward.
+

+
“Eat rats and give the likes of HER my position? I think not!. “I will not step aside for a “younger dragoness’ Othelh hissed.
+

+
Cormie could see from the corner of her eye several other dragons who were peaking into the cave ,curious as to what the shouting was about.
+

+
As she turned her nose brushed against something soft along the ridge of his wings. It took Cormie several seconds to recognize what she had bumped into. Her mouth formed an O of surprise.
+

+
Cyrisullie gave a rumble of approval. “Yes, that is an excellent idea Agryua. The rat population needs to be addressed, and, Othelh needs to learn how to walk softly from now on…” The tone of his voice was absolute. He watched as Othelh turned and snarled at him.
+

+
“You old fool! Do you think that I am with out friends in the Wyer, Friends who agree with how I have managed things over the years to keep order?
+

+
Friends who understand what I am doing is for the best of the Wyer and who will continue to follow as I ask because they are loyal to me, You can not just push me aside so easily. They know their place in the Hold and value it.
+

+
How dare you flaunt what you have done in these very caves?! Under MY NOSE! Did you not think I would know what you were doing when those monsters were hatched?”
+

+
Sighing Cyrisullie moved over to where Othelh was. “No doubt you may still terrorize a few dragonesses into a following. Those whom you have taken the hatchlings away from will hesitate.
+

+
losing, one so dear even for a noble cause carries a heavy weight in ones heart forever. Remember that, when you call upon your friends.” He said gravely. “You may go now. I suspect it may take a while for you to learn how to catch your own dinner. “
+

+
Cyrisullie watched the older dragoness stomp out of the cave before he turned to regard Beatri. “I am sorry my dear. Had I received word earlier that this was happening, I would have been able to prevent your suffering.
+

+
"Why didn’t you let me know?” He asked gently touching her nose with his. Not letting her answer he turned to the younger dragoness who had spoken against Othelh. “Go down the mountain and bring back a healer.” He said at last. He saw the younger dragoness take a step back
+

+
“A healer?- y- you mean a- a human healer?” she stammered. Aleppe watched the dragon nod.
+

+
“Yes. A human healer.” Aleppe bowed to him then left the cave in great haste.
+

+
A human- here…That was something that was not done for many many ages. Humans brought death to the dragons when they could make the spears sharp and their bows strong.
+

+
She knew she risked death going to search for this healer…She paused at the entrance to outside the mountain and looked back. She didn’t understand what had happened beyond that Othelh had just lost her position, and Beatri had gained it.
+

+
If Beatri would perish, Othelh would be in power again. Having spoken against her, Aleppe knew that things would not go well for her or hers. Gathering herself up Aleppe spread her wings and gave a mighty flap sending small trees tumbling away.
+

+
A human here…
+

+
What would become of the Wyer?
+

+
To be continued…
