When wandering around the [[Dragon Isles]] there are places that give subtle hints as to the future of dragon-kind and there are helpful people eager to answer questions to the best of their knowledge. What follows here then is a fun exercise in guesswork about the future of the dragons and should not be taken as any kind of "official" announcement. January in Review
Last month was a relatively quiet time for the Dragon Isles, especially after the buzz of the Release Event in December. Work continued on the new Cathedral and many dragons continued to anticipate its opening. We speculated last time that the Wyverns would be released in January, but it turns out we missed the mark just a little.
A Wyvern Treat
As mentioned above, the Wyverns were bumped forward a couple of months and it has been announced in February that they will be released at the start of March. It is going to be a dual species release, as both the Arctic and Desert Wyverns will be available. Also worthy of note is that this will be the first release event of either type to use the new release format.
A New Hatching System
With the way Second Life as a whole is behaving these days, coupled with a much greater interest in the dragons than ever before, the old way of running the hatching event could no longer be sustained, so it will now work differently. Rather than rehashing, let me quote from Daryth Kennedy herself:
Although the previous hatching system has generally worked well this past year, we’ve always been aware it wasn't going to last forever. During several High Council meetings, many of the guardians have presented and discussed various options and alternatives for the releases.
The catastrophic database failures during the Winter Solstice marked the death of the old hatching system. When a completely empty sim wasn't able to handle the strain of the event it became obvious things had to change for the next release. The new hatching system outlined here is the most logical, fair and stable method we’ve come up with.
It's important to note that although the method of hatching has changed, the number of eggs hatched and rate of releases hasn’t increased.
So how will the hatching itself work now? The Release Events FAQ will be updated shortly to reflect the new system, so please check there.
