So, you want to be a dragon? Not a Hatchling or a Wyrmling, but a full-blooded, majestic, mighty adult dragon: a Wyrm of the Isle of Wyrms. These wise and noble creatures are rare among the population of Second Life at large and many adventurers journey from the far corners of the Grid to be in with a chance at ascending to the dragon plane.

In the past these souls would have to arrive early at the Isles and pit their reflexes, computer hardware and attention spans against other hopefuls in an adrenaline-soaked click-through contest. But the sheer numbers of residents in Second Life, coupled with the ever-increasing interest in the Isles has changed that. Now the pressure mounts as hopefuls test their luck and ply their odds in the new Registration and Hatching Day format.

Contents

Registration

From three days before the Solstice or Equinox Hatching Day event takes place, or from three days before a special "New Species" Hatching Day event takes place, avatars from across the grid congregate in the Cathedral on Limbo ( SLurl ) to register for the upcoming Hatching Day itself.

Registration is performed by paying the dragon egg of whichever species seems most appealing. Your registration fee is immediately returned to you, along with a special token. You must take the token to an area that allows object creation, such as a Sandbox, or your own land and you must rez the token: Drag in from your inventory and drop it on the ground. This action will send a message to the Dragon Isles and complete your registration process.

The first registration period closes approximately 12 hours before the Hatching Day event - at midnight of the previous day - but for those residents who cannot resist acting at the last minute, there will be a second registration period open for 30 minutes before the event itself, which will work in the same way as the main registration period.

Hatching Day

The drawing of the lucky names will begin at noon on the actual day of the Hatching Day. A total of 140 names are drawn from the pool of Second Life residents who negotiated the registration period described above, 70 eggs for each sign up period. If you are one of the chosen lucky few, you will receive an SL Instant Message almost immediately with detailed instructions on how to proceed. If you did not win, you will receive an SL Instant Message soon after the drawing, with some encouraging words and wishes of better luck for the future. If you are fortunate enough to win, you will have 48 hours to follow the instructions and complete your dragon transformation.

Top Tips to Remember

For the event as a whole:

  • The Hatching has two parts, the Registration period and the Hatching Day.
  • You must show up at the Isles and follow the registration procedures to be part of the Hatching Day.
  • To Register you pay the cost of an adult dragon to one of the dragon egg vendors in the Cathedral, your L$ will be returned along with a token which you must rez to complete the process.
  • You will receive an Instant Message in Second Life on the day of the actual Hatching Day notifying you whether you were lucky or unlucky.
  • If you win, you have 48 hours to follow the instructions you will receive, otherwise you forfeit and a redrawing occurs.

For dragon purchasing:

  • Once you have succeeded at one adult dragon Hatching Day event you need not attend another one. Once you are part of the Council of Wyrms, you can purchase any other adult at any time and for a discounted price.
