Chapter Five: Greed

The day started out like any other. I woke up, got dressed, ate, and brushed my teeth, than ran out the door, chasing the bus. Cara stood in the doorway, shaking her head. Cara wasn’t your average young adult. She acted like she was still eighteen but at the same time she was acting like she was fifty. She looked eighteen too. Her hair was blonde and fine. It had brown streaks that ran through and was just below her shoulders. She had a nice face with some acne. Her eyes were brown and her nose was sort of small. Her small lips were usually in a frown. She was usually seen with khaki pants, white shirt, and black, fleece, jacket that ended above her belly button. She had long legs and wore sandals. Her toenails were usually painted red.

As for Tatzuko, he had short, black hair with long bangs. He wore glasses over his blue eyes. His nose was regular sized if not a little big and was near sculpted like the rest of his face. He was very skinny and had long arms and legs. He usually wore a white or blue shirt with jeans. He spent his time at the library or at home with a book. No matter what, he was reading somewhere.

As I got on the bus, I whipped out my Ipod Holo and fell asleep at the music. I was half asleep and knew when the bus got to the school. As I was walking to period one, a senior attacked me. Same one as the Friday before spring break. This time he started with a low punch, so I couldn’t dodge under it. I jumped up and near hit the ceiling. I came down, landing a powerful axe kick to the back of his head, sending him crashing to the floor. After a good thirty seconds, he rose again. Blood was splashed around his nose and he looked pissed. He simply charged at me with no real indication of his next move. He tried to swoop me from the side and slam me into a locker, but I saw his arm and grabbed it, stopping the attack.

“I have been practicing”, I said with a demonic grin. “Practicing, waiting for you to try this again.” I began to tighten my grip and I saw a small expression of pain appear on his face. “Its time, we both reaped the outcome.” I pulled my arm back, and than to the right, swinging the kid just enough to catch him off balance. He fell toward me and I knocked him out with a powerful knee blow to the stomach.

“This will teach you” I looked over at the rest of the people in the hall. “And all of you… To not mess with Zin Arcanum. You all better learn from this. I expect to be treated nicer now.”

I walked off to my class. The bell had rung about three minutes ago and people were still standing in the hall, gawking at the unconscious body on the floor.

“Zin, why are you late?” Asked Mr. Marcatto, my math teacher.

I shot a dark glance at him and saw his face soften with fear for a second.

“I was at my locker and spilled some books on the floor.”

He looked at me and marked my name on the computer with an ‘L’. I just sat down at my usual seat and went to sleep like normal. The day resumed pretty peacefully. I was called to the office at the end of the day and was told I had the next day off. Day off, Ha! I was suspended. I told Cara when I got home. She was about to yell at me but stopped when Tatzu came over and shook my hand. Cara just looked at him, smiled, and patted my head. I went to my room and took a nap.

“Fucking people.” I muttered before drifting off.

I woke up in a desert with nothing near me but a door, just standing there.

“OPEN IT”, a voice said.
I opened the door and stepped through a wall of light. The next place was what looked to be ruins. Ahead of me was an altar. On the altar, sat a wolf with thirteen tails, each tail bound to the other by cuffs and chains. I could feel a huge blast of power as it noticed me. It stood up and slowly walked towards me. I wanted to walk back, but strangely enough, I walked calmly forward. Soon I was facing the wolf from a foot away. It sat down again and stared at me. A cushion appeared forward of me and I kneeled down on it. I heard the wolf panting and soon, everything went white. Everything was gone except the wolf.

“Draw closer, Zin. You have no need to fear yourself.”

I drew close until I was literally hands distance away from the wolf.

“Who are you?” I asked it.

“You should know. Since you don’t however, I will tell you. I am your past, your history. Or at least part of it. I am your more ancient history. Your less ancient history, you are not ready for. I am here to tell you about yourself.”

I stared in anticipation at the k-nine.

“You, Zin, creator of the chain, you have been hand picked by the gods once again. They seem fond of you... us. I was the first form you were picked as. A thirteen-tailed wolf is one of the most powerful beings out there next to the dragons and Shiyas. Each of my tails contains a sin. You thought there were only seven. You were wrong. For each tail you set free from me, you gain a new ability or power. Yet whatever sin is contained will be entered inside you. Be weary for the gods didn’t pick o just for the fact you were strong in physical ability. They wanted to test your inner strength. Each sin entered inside you will make your inner demon more able to appear. Each time you use either Black Rose or White Lotus, the sins already inside you gain power. I have been here the whole time watching and saw your display against the chimera. That shadow attack you pulled was the doing of me. I had loosened a chain on my tails so you wouldn’t die. But now that I have loosened the prison, I must release it now. That is why I have called you here. To give you the sin of greed. With this you will be able to steal the life or mind of your foe and either read their attacks like a picture book or rid yourself of wounds at the enemy’s extent. Don’t worry, the more you use, it does not grow. It only grows at the usage of your dual blade’s evolution.”

“Yeah… Isn’t there a sin called ‘lust’? I really don’t expect to use what I think may come with that soon.”

“…Yes, there is and it does indeed… make you ‘bigger’ but it also enables you to be immune to getting extremely hurt from hits to sensitive spots like an open wound or bruise or…”

“Your reproductive organs.”

“You’re such a child… And yes, those too.”

“No!” I yelled. “I’m fifteen! Does not fit into the category of ‘child’”

“Ugh…” The wolf dropped his head in disappointment. “Anyways… You have gotten your gift, now you must leave. Au revior, Zin. Au revior.”

“Wait, wolf guy. I mean me! I still have so much to ask you! Wait! No!”

I saw the wolf begin to turn the opposite direction and walk off as the ground between us began to widen. The scene turned from white, to the ruins, to the desert and than to blackness. The blackness disappeared when I opened my eyes. I looked around me for any traces of the animal. All I saw was my regular room. I ran over to the living room and looked over at my Siberian Husky.

“Hi, Angel! How is my wittle poopie doing today?” I was hugging and scratching her as If she was going to repay me with the answers I wanted from the wolf. Angel was a purebred Husky. She had grey and black fur with some spots of white. Her eyes were blue on the right and green on the left. She was a beautiful dog and only a few months old. She put her tongue out as she was enjoying my scratching her. Her eyes were squinted in happiness.

“So will you answer my questions?” I whispered in her ear. Angel just gave me a look with no other meaning than, “Why did you stop?” I realized that my dream and Angel weren’t remotely connected no matter how much Huskies look like wolves. I continued to scratch her ears and she resumed her same dazed face. Tatzu went over to Cara.

“I think he’s trying to cope with being suspended tomorrow by playing with the dog. Its kind of freaking me out…” he whispered to her.

“Or…” She started back, “He just has an interest in the animal he picked and wants to show her that he loves her. Not much creepiness in petting a dog… Man, you’re stupid sometimes. Go read your books.”

Tatzu looked at her with eyes half shut in a way like saying “…” without actually meaning the pause type of ‘…’ but more of the angry ‘…’. If I lost anyone, than I can’t help you. It may be just my way of looking at things. I was about to ask Angel if she wanted to go for a walk but changed my mind after recalling my last walk about a week ago. Instead, I went to my room, got a tennis ball, and brought Angel to the back. I threw the ball and Angel stared at me with a dumb look.

“Go on girl. Get the ball.” I saw she was still dumbly staring at me. “Fetch. Gimme the ball. Ummm Go-go gadget get the ball! Ugh…” She continued her stare. I pointed in the general direction of the ball and she than saw what I meant. She than ran off the porch, grabbed it and gave it back. “Good girl. It was about time you got my drift.” I patted her on the head and she sat in pride. She got up again when I pulled back my hand with the ball in it. I threw it and immediately she ran off the porch. Angel watched it land, grabbed it in her jaw and ran back to me. She sat down and stuck her snout in the air with the ball in it and gave me a pleased look. I grabbed the ball from her and scratched her ears again. I played fetch with her for about two hours and than we both went inside after I told her to ‘do her business’ and she went off to do so. For a pup, she was pretty damn intelligent and even house broken. That would be my doing. I went on Third Life for the rest of the evening and Angel sat in her bed that I put right beside the computer chair. At like one O’clock in the morning, I went to bed and Angel slept at the foot. Elsewhere….

The room was pitch black and only two sets of eyes looked about. Footsteps tromped and got closer until a mechanic door slid open and a third set of reptilian Eyes entered. The first voice came from their direction.

“Pardon my interruption, sires, but It is reported that this… Zin has killed over a million of my beautiful Raptors! It’s an out rage! We have to send something more powerful!”
The red eyes shifted and seemed to look at the Green ones that were talking.
“I will have to consult with “Seven”. If she decides yes, than yes, “X”, we will do something about this pest. Seven, whaddya think, dear?”
Blue eyes shifted to look at the red ones.
“We shall send “Four”. He is enough.”
“Understood.”
An elevator began to move from the center of the room. A new set entered, these were glasses that shone with unidentifiable light.
“What is it, m’lady? …And Lord.”
“Go to sector 8, kill the one named Zin.”
“Yes ma’am!” The voice let out an evil giggle before the elevator started up again and the glasses vanished out of the room. The red eyes seemed to smile. “Let’s watch out kin die, shall we?”
“Lets”, replied the other two.
